Château de Montauban - Saison 2024

Cultural

This beautiful residence was above all a place of rest and inspiration for Alphonse Daudet. The museum is the forerunner of a vast project and presents the permanent exhibition on the area's medieval archaeological discoveries.

This house, the setting for many of Alphonse Daudet's novels, was first and foremost a place of calm and rest for the author: "Blessed house, how often I have come here to reconnect with nature, to cure myself of Paris and its fevers...".
This superb building, with its monumental 19th-century façade adjoining an 18th-century farmhouse, was the home of the Ambroy family, who welcomed the author during his stays in Provence. Daudet and his wife Julia visited regularly from 1863, at the invitation of his cousins.
Now a museum centre dedicated to the history of the village, the Château de Montauban is the forerunner of a vast cultural project that already includes a permanent exhibition on the area's medieval archaeological discoveries, Permanent exhibition: "Fontvieille, diversions through the Middle Ages".

This 2024 season, the Château will be hosting a temporary exhibition from 29 May to 6 October entitled 'Alphonse Daudet and Luigi Rossi'.
